While very little has been officially released regarding the vehicle, the company’s CEO has confirmed that Lamborghini has officially joined the EV revolution. Yes, you heard that right. The Lamborghini is going electric! The Aventador’s successor will not only have high-octane performance in the form of a V-12 engine, but it will also be a plug-in hybrid. Jaws will drop, and heads will turn as we’re only a few months away from seeing what Lamborghini’s well-laid plans will materialize as.
A question looming around many industry critics, myself included, is what will this mean for the automotive industry? The industry is one that is heavily based on trends. When one distributor or company initiates a new safety or driving assistance feature, others are bound to follow suit and even improve upon them. With semi-autonomous driving becoming more accessible, for example, many are attempting to improve upon this. Manufacturers such as Volkswagen have plans to have an all-electric fleet in the foreseeable future. By bringing EV technology to their latest creation, Lamborghini has the potential to change the way we see the top-tier performance in the electric marketplace. For comparison, the last incarnation of the Aventador produced 720 horsepower. If its successor manages to surpass this, we might very well see the end of the internal-combustion engine as the gateway to high performance.
We’re waiting with bated breath to see what Lamborghini has in store.
